Standard Series Rods
Handcrafted with precision and passion, split-cane bamboo rods embody the essence of fly fishing tradition. I am currently accepting orders for the three Standard Series rod models below.
All Standard Series reel seats consist of a maple or cherry insert, uplocking hardware, Fenwick style grip, snake guides, hook keeper, nickel silver ferrules and a beautiful agate stripping guide. Default guide wrap colors are olive, orange, or crimson with black trim bands.
6'3" (3wt) - medium action
A delicate rod for fishing small streams and creeks. Medium action built for precision casting at short distances.
7' (4wt) - slow action
A nice, all-purpose rod designed for casting dry flies in small/medium streams. Deadly accurate at short distances, it's slow action makes this rod perfect for chasing small to medium sized trout.
7' (5wt) - medium action
A versatile medium action trout rod with a little more mass in the butt section. This beefed up design helps with longer casts and can handle small streamers but is still delcate enough to lightly present dry flies.
Of course, if you want something different we can discuss the options and customize a rod based on your preferences for an additional cost. If you'd like to discuss additional customizations, just send me an email with the details and we'll work together to find a solution.

Ordering
Orders may be placed by email at steve@scissortailrods.com. I build all rods on a first-come-first-served basis. So, once your order is submitted, you will be placed at the end of the queue and I will update you as my workload progresses. Wait times depend on the size of the backlog at the time of the order.
Once I am ready to begin building your rod, I will reach out and we will finalize the details of the order (hardware selection, wrap colors, grip style, etc.). After these details have been finalized, you will be billed for half the cost of the rod as a non-refundable deposit. This initial deposit is required prior to the build beginning. An additional deposit may be required on special requests and will be determined at the time of the order. Once I receive your deposit, I will begin work on your rod.
Throughout the process, I will keep you updated on the status of the build as well as any potential delays. Once the rod is complete, I will send you a final invoice with the remaining balance due along with any associated taxes and shipping charges, which must be paid in full before the rod is shipped. The buyer is responsible for the full shipping cost of which I can provide an estimate upon an order being placed.
